With approximately 500 women in attendance, the Leduc Chamber of Commerce hosted a spectacular evening at the Leduc Curling Club; Ladies Night Out – Diva Style. The evening was filled with laughter and entertainment, hosted by Kirk A. Cayer from Leduc G8way Community Radio. Dinner was sponsored by Eagle’s Nest Restaurant and Catering, and was served buffet style. Along with many raffle prizes, there was a silent auction, 50/50 draw, and a main raffle for the coveted Diamond Ring Award at the end of the night. Ken’s Furniture donated a recliner and set up an area in the hall where women could enter the raffle for the recliner, take a seat and be pampered with strawberries and whipped cream, and cooled off by a large traditional style fan. Along with great food and prizes, the ladies of Leduc were served drinks by men from the community with a waiter assigned to every table. The entertainment for the evening was provided by hypnotist Colin Christopher who put on an incredible show. Colin invited approximately 30 women onto the stage to fall under his spell, but informed everyone that hypnotism is not magic, but rather the power of suggestion; therefore if an individual does not want to become hypnotized chances are they will not. He asked women to make their way to the stage if they wanted to try hypnotism and were willing to allow themselves to be hypnotized. The results were entertaining and surprising. While some women did not give in to Colin’s suggestions, others appeared to be at his mercy falling asleep and awakening on his command, believing that they had won the lottery, and convinced that the person sitting next to them was in fact and incredibly comfortable pillow. The show was thoroughly enjoyed by all in attendance and even a few guests in the audience who were following along became hypnotized. The performance was followed by dancing and cocktails, the winners of the silent auction prizes received their items, and finally the Diamond Ring Raffle was drawn. June Halvorson was the fortunate guest to win the prize, a diamond and ruby ring valued at approximately $900.00, presented to her by EDA Board Member Ashley Robbins. Overall, the evening was a huge success with a great turnout and incredible organization. Guests in attendance had a wonderful evening with great food, entertainment, and prizes. Congratulations to the Leduc Chamber of Commerce, Iris Yanish, and all of the volunteers for such a successful and immensely enjoyable evening.
